True Food Kitchen - Restaurant Review

This was my second visit to True Food Kitchen at Seaholm. The restaurant is bright and cheerful with a retro modern feel. The service both times was friendly and attentive. The menu is based on an anti-inflammatory diet, but don't let you stop that from trying it!

I went a couple of weeks ago with CC for lunch and it was lovely. I ordered the Honeydew Ginger Soda and felt that it had too much ice and ended up tasting watered down. However, the food was really fresh and yummy, and I felt satisfied without being overfull afterwards.

We shared the Edamame Dumplings, which was served in a very light sauce.

I had the Red Chili Noodle Bowl, and the texture and taste were perfect - the sauce was just the right level of spiciness and the noodles were tender without being soggy. CC had the Spicy Thai Curry, which came with an additional small bowl of rice or quinoa.

Tonight, we went to celebrate a couple of hula sisters' birthdays. I ordered the Domaine Chandon Sparkling Rosé, which was served beautifully in a Schott Zwiesel coupe glass and was just lovely.

I ordered the Shitake Mushroom Lettuce Cups and shared them with EH, who ordered the Kale Guacamole. Both were rich and delicious! The Romaine lettuce cups were very slightly spicy with a crumbled filling that was held together by the Asian-inspired sauce.

The guacamole had kale and grapefruit mixed into it and was accompanied by these amazing chips, kind of like a crispy flat bread, even though they were described on the menu as pita chips.

VK ordered a well-done Umami burger, which was cooked to perfection! The sweet potato hash was scrumptious!

Chef Tommy came by at the end of the night to say hello - a very thoughtful thing to do, especially since he was probably exhausted from a very busy day. Our waitress, Sarah, brought the birthday girls a Strawberry Rhubarb Crisp on the house - very sweet of her!

The six of us ended up spending about $140 pre-tip, with five of us ordering a glass of wine or bubbly. Not bad for a post-hula class birthday get-together!
