Al Fico - Restaurant Review

Al Fico dining room

We had the most wonderful dinner tonight at the charming restaurant, Al Fico! The guys ordered Italian beer, S ordered white wine, and I had a couple glasses of Aglianico (which was perfect with everything we ordered).

The small loaves of bread were warm and fresh from the oven, and the olive oil (in metal containers on the table) was nice and fruity to compliment the bread.

We ate family style. Starters included the Cozze (steamed mussels in garlic broth), Polpette (meatballs in tomato sauce), and the cheese platter (house-made Burrata, a Gorgonzola, and a Tartufo. The rest of the dishes included Pizze Funghi (mushroom pizza), entree-sized portions of the Rigatoni (with mushroom ragù) and the Agnolotti (filled with fava puree, pea shoots, preserved lemon, mint, and Pecorino Romano), and the Gamberoni allo Spiedo (grilled prawns).

The Cozze was very good. The broth was thin, slightly spicy because of the sliced red hot peppers, and garlicky, and we asked for extra bread to soak up the goodness. The Polpette were very popular at our table, and we used some of the bread to soak up the additional tomato sauce. The cheese platter was really nice, especially the house-made Burrata.

The mushroom pizza was great, as was the rigatoni with mushroom ragù - the pasta had the perfect texture, and the mushrooms were so delicious! The Agnolotti was just okay to me, although the rest of the table seemed to like it. The portion of this pasta was also much smaller as compared to the rigatoni. The grilled prawns were wonderful, and it was very nice to have the greens, cauliflower, and broccoli that went with them.

For dessert, the guys ordered the chocolate cake which D reports was rich and very delicious. S and I were very full from the dinner.

In all, we spent $200 for 2 couples prior to adding tip. There was more than enough food and we each had two to three drinks. The service was very attentive and we enjoyed ourselves immensely! The dedicated parking lot is large and spacious, which adds to the feeling that this restaurant really takes care of its diners.

Can't wait to return to Al Fico!
