Austin Wine Merchant - Divers Burgundies Tasting

Austin Wine Merchant hosted a Burgundy tasting today featuring one white Burgundy and three red Burgundies.

Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Blanc Chardonnay Reserve 2009, Burgundy, France - $17.50
Aroma - light citrus and honey
Taste - light citrus and grapefruit, clean
Like! Not much oak!

Bouchard Père et Fils Bourgogne Pinot Noir Reserve 2009, Burgundy, France - $17.50
Aroma - tart cherries
Taste - tart cherries, dry, acidic, black tea
Very nice, especially for the price.

Joseph Drouhin Côte de Beaune 2009, Burgundy, France - $29.99
This wine is 100% Pinot Noir.
Aroma - dry cherries, gunpowder
Taste - black cherries, tart, acidic, dry, smoky finish
Nice if you want smoky.

Louis Jadot Beaune Cru Boucherettes 2008, Burgundy, France - $45
This wine is 100% Pinot Noir.
Aroma - tart fruit, almost like pickles
Taste - tart fruit, serious pucker factor, soft to moderate tannins, wood
Not my favorite, although complex and interesting. Would be interested to see how it develops after it breathes, as well as with time. AWM staff agreed - think that this wine could be held as long as 9 or 10 years and will develop over time.

As always, a very nice tasting at Austin Wine Merchant!
