Ardesia, Hell's Kitchen, New York

We had intended to have pre-show wine and appetizers at Ardesia before seeing Priscilla, but ran out of time. Luckily, it turned out to be a great place to lounge after the show with leisurely conversation and nibbles.

We ordered a Barbera d'Alba from the Piedmont region of Italy, but our server brought this Rioja instead. Good thing that we like Spanish wine, too!

R. Lopez de Heredia Viña Tondonia Viña Cubillo Crianza 2005, Rioja, Spain - $50
This wine is a blend of 65% Tempranillo, 25% Grenache, 5% Graciano, and 5% Mazuelo. It retails for $50/bottle at the restaurant.
Aroma - bright fruit, a little musty
Taste - bright fruit, dry, a little musty, acidic, soft to moderate tannins

We all really like this wine, and it went well with the small bites - assorted olives, ham and cheese croquettes, and crostini with three toppings.
