Beaulieu Vineyard, Rutherford, CA - wine tasting

We had our second tasting of the day at Beaulieu Vineyard, AKA BV. It took us a while to find the 2008 Tapestry release party, which is where we were supposed to be. First we stopped off in the main tasting room.

BV Maestro Collection Sauvignon Blanc 2008, Napa Valley, CA - $22
I tasted tart light fruit. The wine was watery and dry. Maybe good for a beginner wine drinker, but not very interesting to me - just okay, and therefore a "maybe."

We then stopped off at the private reserve tasting room, and I did snag a sip before we headed off into a barrel room where the release party was actually taking place.

BV Tapestry Reserve 2008, Napa Valley, CA - $60
This wine is a blend of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Petite Verdot, and Malbec.

Aroma - dark fruit
Taste - dark fruit, dark cocoa, dry

I liked this wine - I also tried it later on at the release party - see below!

Off to one of the barrel rooms for the actual party! All Tapestry Reserve wines are blends of Cabernet Sauvignon, Merlot, Cabernet Franc, Malbec, and Petite Verdot.

BV Tapestry Reserve 1997, Napa Valley, CA - $85
This wine was poured by Jeff, a friend of Mike from Honig.

Aroma - dark fruit, dark cocoa
Taste - dark fruit, dark cocoa, strong tannins, full-bodied, black tea finish

This was ShC and Chef SN's favorite. I liked it tremendously, and it went well with beef sliders and french fries.

BV Tapestry Reserve 1998, Napa Valley, CA - $65
This wine was poured by Peter.

Aroma - dark fruit, cocoa
Taste - dark fruit, moderate to strong tannins, dark cocoa finish, a nice minerality

This wine was more delicate than the 1997 vintage. This was my favorite of the group.

BV Tapestry Reserve 1999, Napa Valley, CA - $70
This wine was poured by Christine, who likes everything about it.

Aroma - black fruit, a little hot
Taste - black fruit, dark cocoa, strong tannins, simple, accessible

MON and ShC liked this wine a lot. We had it with paella, beef skewers, and pork skewers.

BV Tapestry Reserve 2000, Napa Valley, CA - $60
This wine was poured by Julie, who likes the fact that it is fruit-forward.

Aroma - port-like
Taste - dehydrated/cooked fruit, moderate to strong tannins, dry, cocoa finish

This is a nice wine - thicker, fuller-bodied than the others. I had it with turkey sliders and sweet potato fries.

BV Tapestry Reserve 2008, Napa Valley, CA - $60
This wine was poured by Daniel.

Aroma - dark fruit, cocoa
Taste - dark fruit, cocoa, strong tannins, long finish, young

This wine needs to be held a while, but I do like it - it has a lot of potential.

This release party was so much fun! The winery also had a cover band playing so we got a little dancing in as well! Overall, a fantastic experience and great wines!
