Château Picau Perna 2009, St. Emilion, Bordeaux, France - $17.99

I tasted this wine today at Whole Foods (note: the above image is borrowed from the 2000 vintage). The wine pourer at the store said that the 2009 Bordeaux vintage is the best in a long time. The Telegraph also reports the same. This wine retails for $17.99/bottle at Whole Foods.

Aroma is hard to nail down using a teeny tiny plastic tasting cup (no more real wine glasses at the WF tasting kiosk - boo!). I tasted dark fruit, black tea, soft tannins, and a long finish. The pourer said that the wine is approximately 70% Merlot and a blend of other varietals such as Cabernet Sauvignon and Cabernet Franc, and that this wine wine is light on the palate and food friendly (it's definitely light on the palate - still have to see if it's food friendly).

I would absolutely buy this wine - it was my favorite Bordeaux of today's tasting.
