Girard Winery, Yountville, CA - red wine tasting

Girard Winery's tasting room is located at the north end of Yountville, just a few blocks up from Jessup Cellars. Girard was recommended to us by several pourers during our visit to Napa - their wines are consistently good and highly rated. The pourer from Hall specifically told us to try their Artistry Bordeaux-style blend.

We took that advice and purchased a glass of Girard Artistry 2007, which is a blend of 64% Cabernet Sauvignon, 13% Cab Franc, 11% Malbec, 9% Petit Verdot, and 6% Merlot. It retails for $40/bottle and $14/glass (although during happy hour, these prices dip to $36/bottle and $10.50/glass respectively). I just checked the Girard website and saw that they have a 50% off tasting coupon, so be sure to check their site for special offers before you visit.

Aroma - dark, dark, dark fruit
Taste - dark fruit, strong tannins, black tea, very smooth

We LOVED this wine! I'm going to look for it in Austin!

A side-note: during happy hour they had a musician who sang one-minute versions of popular folksy tunes (think Dave Matthews Band) - he wasn't bad, but he wasn't good. Luckily we were still able to enjoy our wine, and most everyone else seemed to really enjoy the atmosphere. But if you're a huge music fan, this guy might drive you away!
