CMS Red 2008 by Hedges, Columbia Valley, Washington State - $14.50

This was the second wine I tasted at Royal Blue tonight. Again, April Collins from Vintage Wine Marketing had tons to tell me about this wine and wine in general.

This wine is 46% Cabernet Sauvignon, 48% Merlot, and 6% Syrah.

Aroma - dark fruit
Taste - fruit, tobacco, layers upon layers of flavor (nice complexity), nice tannins

April also smelled and tasted white pepper. She says that the complexity makes this wine taste like a more expensive wine. She also mentioned that the grapes for this wine come from what is now the Red Mountain AVA (which was formerly part of the Columbia Valley AVA).

April says that she much prefers mountain fruit – she says that almost every cult wine comes from mountain fruit, and that mountain fruit tends to produce wines with nice, round tannins.

Update - June 25, 2011
Had this wine at a mystery red wine party - see the updated notes here!
