Hoya de Cadenas Reserva Tempranillo 2004 - $10



This Spanish Tempranillo by Vicente Gandia is absolutely one of my favorite wines! Whole Foods often has it on sale for $10, which is another huge bonus!

This wine is great - spicy, yet light and refreshing enough for summer and vegetarian dishes. MS, who was over for dinner tonight (with SD, of course), thought he smelled chili peppers. I thought it smelled spicy and tasted spicy and fruity at the same time.

Next, the second Tempranillo of the evening.

Update - September 18, 2009
This is my self-professed favorite Tempranillo for around $10, and I love it because it is very food friendly, especially when we're eating light. Tonight I made a tofu broccoli shitake udon, and it was splendid with the wine!



This isn't my photo, but it gives you a good idea of what we ate for dinner! Just omit the carrots and green onions, and pretty much this looks like what I cooked!

Update - Thanksgiving, November 26, 2009
We had this wine with our organic Thanksgiving meal, which consisted of a Whole Foods smoked turkey breast, sage and thyme Portobello mushroom, sweet potato fries with ketchup, smashed potatoes with Shitake mushroom gravy, green bean and baby bella stir fry, and cranberry stuffing. Yum - perfect!
