Domaine Olivier Hillaire Côtes-du-Rhône 2007 Vieilles Vignes - $12

This French Côtes-du-Rhône is a Grenache according to one website, and a blend of Grenache and Syrah according to another. Either way, I can tell that this wine is much lighter-bodied than I usually prefer for drinking by itself.

The aroma of the wine was deeply fruity. Its taste was bitter in a way that I don't prefer. However, the flavor of the wine improved for me with dinner, which was chicken and mozzarella ravioli with mushroom and tomato sauce. Again, food seems to cut some of wine's bitterness - I don't know if this is just because of the particular food/wine pairing, or because food just helps to mellow the taste of wine overall. I'll have to do more research on this!

Oh, this wine is also excellent with truffle oil popcorn - had that as a snack with this wine yesterday evening!
